Data and Equity
I’m passionate about using science to help communities thrive. Unfortunately, the connection between research and the ability for diverse communities to overcome modern and historic obstacles is not always straightforward. That’s because scientists are human and therefore the decisions we make are subject to internal biases, limited perspectives, and social forces beyond our control. And communities are complex, interdependent, dynamic entities that are not easily captured by checklists or geographic boundaries. I believe the careful consideration of our own short-comings and the limitations of our data coupled with an equity-based perspective that acknowledges the importance of systems-level influences is the key to unlocking our true potential as social beings.
