      <image:title>Teaching - Approaches to Teaching</image:title>
<image:caption>Inspired by my time teaching after school programs for elementary students, I believe that a college education should be a transformative experience for a person, whether that individual is a first-generation college student, or someone with a long history of college-educated parents. Sociology, in particular, can share practical and meaningful insights into how our current social systems work for and against all students on the socio-economic spectrum. In order to prepare myself to teach in an ever diversifying environment, I have pursued training in teaching students from all backgrounds about different, often difficult, topics. I’ve attended, for example, seminars on trauma-informed teaching and dialogue-based discussion techniques. I use these practices along with the skills I’ve picked up analyzing data to create curriculum that, similar to “whole person” medicine, addresses students’ multiple concerns and meets them where they are while completing clearly defined course objectives.</image:caption>

<image:title>Reading List - What Village? Opportunities and Supports for Parental Involvement Outside of the Family Context</image:title>
<image:caption>Robert W. Ressler, Children and Youth Services Review Parental involvement research and practice has disproportionately focused on the characteristics of families that promote family-school partnerships. This study focuses instead on school and community characteristics that may elicit or support parental involvement for all families, but especially those from racial/ethnic minority groups. Using the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study–Kindergarten Cohort 2011 enhanced with data from the American Community Survey and the IRS, multilevel models reveal that educational organizations in the community are associated with higher levels of school-based parental involvement behaviors. This association varies across diverse racial/ethnic groups, such that the link between human service organizations and parental involvement is stronger for Latina/o families than for White and Black families. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.childyouth.2019.104575</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Research with a PURPOSE</image:title>
<image:caption>With over a decade of experience in the social sciences, I have successfully navigated the entire life-cycle of numerous high-impact academic research projects. Whether it’s through pursuing my own research agenda or helping others on their projects, my work has resulted in publications in many high impact journals that span several disciplines including Sociology, Medicine, and Public Affairs/Nonprofit Management. My favorite part of this work has been puzzling through the best methodological approach for a research question, and making sure that project results, conclusions, and applications promote racial/ethnic equity for all children and families.</image:caption>
